The school and
community have the following aspirations for students
of Little Wound School:
Goal #1: All children shall read independently
by the third grade.
Student Outcomes:
Effective Communicators and interpersonal relaters
who:
1. communicate effectively in writing
2. communicate effectively in speaking
3. practice active listening
4. read and understand what they read
5. have good personal relationships
6. have good manners and civility
7. are outgoing and empathetic
Goal #2: 70% of students shall be proficient/advanced
in Reading and Math
Goal #3: Individual student attendance will
be 90% or higher.
Student Outcomes:
Positive individuals who:
1. have a strong sense of self-esteem
2. are alcohol and drug free
3. have a sense of spirituality
4. set and achieve personal goals through self-discipline and self-motivation
5. practice a healthy lifestyle including nutrition, exercise and mental health
6. can solve conflicts and deal with stress without physical or emotional violence
7. can accept and adapt to change and cope with the challenges of life
8. believe they can create their own destiny/have a vision of their future
9. make positive choices and accept the responsibility for those choices
Goal #4: Students shall demonstrate knowledge
of their Lakota culture and language to improve academic
achievement.
Student Outcomes:
Culturally enlightened Lakota’s who:
1. speak the Lakota language fluently
2. practice traditional Lakota values including respect, courage, spirituality,
honesty, generosity, wisdom, and patience
3. are proud to be Lakota and strive to practice Wolakota
4. know Lakota history including treaties, legends, ancestors, rights, reservation
and town history
5. practice Lakota arts, crafts, nature skills, tipi knowledge, writing, dance,
songs,
gender roles, relationships and genealogy, and spirituality
6. participate in Lakota activities e.g. sweats, powwows, etc.
7. teach and share culture with others especially family members
Goal #5: There shall be increases in enrollment,
retention (80%), graduation, placement and post-secondary
success.
Student Outcomes:
Lifelong learners who:
1. are prepared for postsecondary education whether it is college, vocational
/technical school or the military
2. meet the LWS essential student learning’s and state performance standards
3. have the skills to do research and access resources including use of technology
4. demonstrate survival skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, work
ethic,
personal responsibility, goal setting, self-motivation, etc.
5. know and build on their strengths and work on their weaknesses
6. remain curious and seek information independently, learn from mistakes and
can apply skills to new situation
Student Outcomes: Transforming
tribal members who:
1. lead humbly and compassionately for the people
2. follow the law
3. initiate a high standard of ethics
4. strive for excellence
5. interact with various organizations and groups
6. act as ambassadors to the global community
7. take creative risks to improve the reservation economically and in other
ways
8. have a heightened social conscience to confront injustice
Goal #6: Increased community and parental
inclusion

Contributing Community members who:
1. help keep community clean and beautiful/take care of land
2. know when to compromise
3. bring people together/get along with others
4. commit to making communities sacred places free of gangs and violence

6. model being good neighbors and volunteer time for community service

in their environment

1. practice parenting skills and caring for children including family planning
